President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday to cut all foreign aid to South Africa, citing concerns about a country that “confiscates” the agricultural property of ethnic Africans without compensation.
Trump has argued South Africa’s recently enacted expropriation law 13 of 2024, “dismantling equal opportunities for employment, education and business.”
The order points out that “hateful rhetoric” and government actions “promote disproportionate violence against racially disadvantaged landowners.”

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa previously issued a statement claiming that the land had not been confiscated.
“We look forward to working with the Trump administration on issues of our land reform policy and bilateral interest,” the statement said. “Of of these engagements, we are confident that we will share a better general understanding of these issues.”
This law allows the state to take land for public purposes and public interest and provides fair and impartial compensation.
However, Fox News Digital has not yet had any previously reported expropriations.

Doge team leader Elon Musk has commented publicly on the issue, accusing Ramaphosa of having openly racist possession laws.
The executive order also claims that South Africa is taking a “active” position towards the United States by denounced Israel as a genocide, and “revitalizes” relations with Iran on behalf of Hamas. and is developing commercial, military and nuclear arrangements.

Pointing to these concerns, the executive order states that the United States cannot support the South African government’s alleged violations of rights committees.
In addition to eliminating aid and support, the order says the US will promote resettlement of African refugees fleeing government-based discrimination, including the confiscation of racist property. .
The Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security will prioritize humanitarian relief, including admission and resettlement through the US refugee admissions program, according to the order.
