A former U.S. Post Office supervisor at Compton has admitted to being a postal thief and stole more than $300,000 in checks, gold and collection currency while on the job, authorities said.

From the beginning of last year until his arrest in December, Hayes was the supervisor of the Costa Mesa post office – stealing checks from mail and, according to legal agreements, he was able to forge the recipient’s name. Surveillance camera video shows Hayes depositing stolen checks at ATMs in Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley and Compton. She left some checks at the ATM while wearing a blue shirt with the USPS logo, prosecutors said.
In total, she deposited 20 checks worth around $284,000, and postal mail orders worth $3,000, which she swiped out of the mail, prosecutors said.
Last month, federal agents found a mountain of gold coins and collectable currency.
This includes $1 invoices from 1917, with an estimated $675, $100 invoice worth $1,500 from 1914, and $10 invoices for the US bill. It’s been done. They also found a $5 gold piece in a memo listing the value of $1,600, prosecutors said.
The total amount of stolen goods is estimated at between $304,000 and $324,288.
