President Donald Trump signed a declaration on February 9th declaring “American Gulf Day” when he flew over recently renamed waters on his way to make history at Super Bowl LIX on Sunday afternoon .

“Air Force 1 is currently located in the first international waters in history flying through the recently renamed US Gulf,” the White House shares on X’s video, indicating that Trump has signed the declaration.
Trump signed a declaration in Air Force 1 while traveling to Super Bowl LIX. He will be the first seating president to attend the Super Bowl.

“Today, I am extremely honored to recognize February 9, 2025 as the first day in the Gulf of America,” the declaration read.
“I took this action as stated in this order.”[t]Formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico, the region has long been an essential asset and an indelible part of America for a once-growing country. ”
“Today is my first visit to the Gulf of America since I changed my name,” the declaration continued. “As my administration restores America’s pride in the history of American greatness, it is fitting and appropriate for our great nations to come together to commemorate this important opportunity and the renaming of the Gulf of America.”
Former North Dakota government and current Secretary of Home Affairs Doug Burgham also praised the president and celebrated the official Gulf Day.
“It’s official! Congratulations to @Potus in the Gulf of America! Interiors have implemented instructions from the executive order to restore a name that honors America’s greatness,” Bulgham wrote.

Trump announced his push for the name change at his first press conference as the 47th president of the United States.
“We’re going to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the US Gulf. This has a beautiful ring. It covers a lot of territory,” Trump previously said at his first press conference. . “American Bay. What a beautiful name. That’s appropriate.”

The changes apply to official federal documents and maps, but it is unclear whether orders should use new terms for schools.
Trump also pushed for the rename of Mount Denali in Alaska, noting that it was originally named after President William McKinley.

“McKinley was a very good, perhaps a great president,” Trump said at a rally in December. “They took his name from Mount McKinley, right? That’s what they do to people.
