Camp Pendleton, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) – Marine officers in Camp Pendleton identified sergeant on Sunday. Jacob M. Durham as a US Marine who tragically lost his life in a plane incident in the Philippines at Maginda Nao Dell Sur on February 6, 2025.
Sergeant. Originally from California, Durham served as an electronic intelligence/electromagnetic analyst for the 1st Radio Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group. He joined the Marines in January 2021 and was recently promoted to his current rank on February 1, 2025, confirmed Camp Pendleton officials.

Throughout his military career, Durham has won several famous awards and decorations, including the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Marine Corps Good Deeds Medal, National Defense Military Medal, Merit Mast, Navy Air Jurisdiction Symbols I did. His duties and dedication to exemplary service were similarly recognized by his peers and superiors.
“We lament the loss of the Sergeant, Jacob Durham, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation,” said Lt. Col. Mabel B. Anunziata, commander of the 1st Radio Battalion. “Sergeant. Durham embodied the finest Marine traditions – exemplifying calm, intelligence and selfless leadership. He was deeply respected and loved by his fellow Marines. Ours Thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and his fellow Marines during this extremely difficult time.”
According to the US Indo-Pacific command, the incident occurred during a routine mission to support security cooperation activities in the US and the Philippines. The aircraft involved provided intelligence reporting, surveillance and reconnaissance assistance at the request of the Philippine military.
The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.
Sergeant. Durham’s death marks a loss for the Marine Corps community. His service and sacrifice are remembered by those who know him.
