There is no first NFL 3 peat.
The Philadelphia Eagles crushed the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 on Super Bowl 59 Sunday, claiming their second Lombardi Trophy while ensuring Patrick Mahomes and the Company won’t be able to win three times in a row I did.
Patrick Mahomes made one of the worst performances of his career, but Jalen Hurts got off to an unclear start, but fell into rhythm and didn’t look back halfway through to win the Super Bowl MVP .
Philadelphia started the ball and quickly gave Saquon Berkley. But the drive was debatable. This is because a 28-yard fourth conversion to AJ Brown was denied due to offensive pass interference and forced a punt.
However, Philadelphia ultimately led first. After Hurts found Jahan Dotson on the vertical route, he took it in the next play with “Tush Push” and made it 7-0 at the first 6:15.
Philadelphia was in the middle of putting together another decent drive, but it wasn’t a score. In the third and 10th issue, the Chiefs performed a blitz. He was pressured by the deep floaters that Brian Cook had read and picked up. However, Kansas City’s attacks remained tough, leaving three times after Mahomes failed to collide with Kelse.
Jake Elliott eventually put Philadelphia on two possessions and sneaked into a 48-yard field goal, making it 10-0 for the second at 8:38.
On the subsequent drive, Mahomes took a back-to-back bag and threw a pick 6 to rookie defensive back Cooper Dejan, making it 17-0.
Mahomes continues to look poor, and in the big game he is a completely different version of himself. After the Philadelphia punt let Kansas City start deeper from its own territory, Mahomes threw another poor pass for Zach Boun to pick up.
On subsequent drives, Hurts extended the lead to 24-0 with a short, open touchdown from AJ Brown. This time it wasn’t recalled. Mahomes then found DeAndre Hopkins for an open play to score Kansas City, but the veteran somehow summarises Kansas City’s heinous first half and drops a wide open pass.
The second thing didn’t improve. Mahomes took two more sacks early in the third and returned the ball to Philadelphia, later becoming Elliott’s second field goal, this time from 29 to 29th field goal.
Travis Kelce then finally joined the action on the first catch of the game at the third 3:30 mark. However, Mahomes was unable to hit Hopkins on his fourth subsequent attempt, returning him to Philadelphia, a dangerous territory.
And it was dangerous. The wounded releases a 46-yard bomb to Devonta Smith, which was essentially read as a dagger.
The Chiefs finally got on the board late in the third time, when Mahomes threw across his body in front of the rush and Rookie Xavier felt worthy. However, a two-point try thrown towards Kelse failed and kept it 34-6.
Elliott then nailed the game’s second 48-yard attempt, making it 37-6. On Philadelphia’s next drive, Elliott surpassed the game for 50 yards, reaching 40 points.
Mahomes put Kansas City in double digit points at 2:54 and played when he spotted Hopkins on the left sideline of the end zone, attempting to cut two points on the follow-up to 40-14.
Philadelphia tried to finish the game under Kenny Pickett and center, but failed to convert the fourth and sixth ones that would bring the ball back to Kansas City. Mahomes then flew it to something worthwhile, and he speeds past two defenders and meets the ball in the end zone. After Hopkins caught a two-point try, he reduced the lead to 40-22, but it was too late.
Hurts finished the game and completed 17 of 22 passes on 221 yards, two touchdowns and one pick, rushing for 72 yards with 11 carries and a score. Barkley was restrained and rushed for 57 yards on 25 carries.
Mahomes was added to the stats in the fourth inning where the game was out of reach, finishing with 21 of 32 completions with 257 yards, three touchdowns and two picks. He took six bags and lost another fumble.
As a result, Philadelphia’s second Super Bowl victory was last in 2018, when Backup Nick Forres led to the shock of Tom Brady’s New England Patriots in 2018. He also made a big game against Kansas City in 2023, but lost 38-35 in the game that led to his final play.
Kansas City will remain in its first Super Bowl victory in 1970 before securing three under three Mahomes in 2020, 2023 and 2024.
Jalen Hurts was named Super Bowl Lix MVP after his dominant and blown performance against the chief.
