Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, and lawmakers, will announce Monday that they are proposing to strengthen laws that oppose emergency workers during the disaster and recovery process. is expected.
The proposed law is expected to be released in the Hall of Fame Monday morning.
The law was motivated by a catastrophic January wildfire. It has resulted in the arrests of more than 20 people accused of being looted in the fire belt, some who are allegedly impersonating firefighters to avoid law enforcement.
“Justice will be quick and important for those who commit crimes to get prices for fiscal fraud from looting to arson and firefighters’ impersonation,” Hochman said when he announced the charges last month. . “You will be arrested, charged and punished within the entire scope of the law. It is despicable and shameful to target these fire victims at the lowest moment, and this office will support the victims. And do everything with that power to bring the victim to justice.”
