The Veterans Affairs Bureau cancelled $178,000 on a Politico Pro subscription, announced Monday by Virginia Secretary Doug Collins.
Collins announced the X’s move, saying his office recently noticed a deal. The cancellation comes after President Donald Trump’s administration revealed that the federal government has paid Politico more than $8 million on subscription fees in recent years.
“The VA ran through a $178,000 contract with Politico and quickly canceled it. That money could be spent more on veterans’ healthcare!” Collins wrote.

“It’s a new day for Virginia,” Collins told Fox News Digital. “We put veterans at the heart of everything our department does and we are mercilessly focusing on customer service and convenience. We offer new and better ways to support VA beneficiaries every day. Working to find it. It benefits veterans, families, survivors and caregivers.”

The move comes after politics denied claims last week that it was a “beneficiary of government programs” along with the revelation of a multi-million-dollar contract with federal agencies.
“As certainly many have seen, among officials related to the White House and government efficiency, the subject of government subscriptions for journalism products is related to the subject of politicians and other press agencies. There was a debate,” Politico CEO Goli Sheikholeslami and editor-in-chief John Harris co-written with staff on Wednesday in a memo obtained by Fox News Digital.
“It’s a great conversation and we welcome it. The value of Politico subscriptions is validated every day in the market. However, some of today’s conversations are confused and some people have left a false understanding. Please ask us in some respects.”

Sheikholeslami and Harris stress that Politico “is not a beneficiary of government programs or subsidies, not one cent, 18 years,” and its subscription service Politico Pro will bring its clients to both private and public sector clients. It touted as offering fact-based reports for Granular. , real-time intelligence, and tracking tools across key policy areas. ”
There was speculation on social media that the $8 million in question came from USAID. This is currently targeted by Doge co-founder Elon Musk, but its agency costs just $44,000. Basic subscriptions typically range from $12,000 to $15,000 for three users.

Politico received taxpayer funds for costly subscription services from elsewhere in the federal government. According to USASPENDING.GOV, the Department of Health and Human Services led, followed by $1.37 million from the interior sector.
The Department of Energy paid Politico to $1.29 million, the Department of Agriculture paid $552,024, and the Department of Commerce paid $485,572.
