The Trump administration is suing a federal judge’s order to freeze federal funds in the U.S. Court of Appeals in the First Circuit.

The allegations come hours after a federal judge in Rhode Island ordered President Donald Trump’s administration to freeze federal funds again.

US District Judge Judge John McConnell ordered the Trump administration to comply with the restraining order issued on January 31, temporarily suspending the administration’s efforts to suspend federal grants and loans. ordered to cut off.

McConnell’s original detention order comes after 22 states, and the District of Columbia faces the Trump administration’s actions to maintain funds for grants such as the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant and other Environmental Protection Agency programs. I objected. However, the state said Friday that the administration was not following and that funds were still tied up.

White House spokesman Harrison Fields said in a Fox News statement. “The legal challenge to that is merely an attempt to undermine the will of the American people.

On January 27, the Administration issued a memo announcing its plans to issue a temporary suspension on federal grants and loans. The White House later revoked the memo on Jan. 29, but White House spokesman Karoline Leavitt said the move was not equivalent to “receiving a freezing of federal funds.”

Specifically, McConnell’s allegations state that the Trump administration will restore withholding funds allocated to the infrastructure improvements and employment and inflation reduction laws passed by the Biden administration in 2021 and 2022 respectively. I’m looking for it. The allegations also call on the Trump administration to restore funding for institutes such as the National Institutes of Health.

The allegations filed Monday allegedly provide evidence that states still have cases where the federal government has “improperly” frozen funds and fails to distribute appropriate federal funds. It’s.

The motion says the Trump administration claims that these actions were done to “harvested” fraud, but McConnell said, “Now the freeze is not a specific discovery of possible fraud.” , it is the result of a broad categorical order.”

“As the court has discovered, the broad, categorical, drastic freeze of federal funds is unconstitutional and continues to cause irreparable harm to a vast portion of the country,” the judge said on Monday. I wrote it.

McConnell said the original order suggested that the withdrawal of the White House OMB memo may have been “only” by name to “overthrow the jurisdiction of the court.”

As a result, McConnell said Monday that the Trump administration must “recover the frozen funds immediately” until the court hears a request for a preliminary injunction and decides.

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronya praised McConnell’s ruling, saying the order “confirmed what we were saying from the start.”

“Now is the time for the administration to enter full compliance,” Neronha said in a statement Monday. “This is a country of law. We hope that the administration will follow the law. Our office and attorney generals across the country are ready to pay attention to the actions of this administration afterwards, and we are I won’t hesitate to return to court. If they don’t follow.”
