A Los Angeles man has been sentenced to prison for a crime he committed as part of a car theft ring.
Joel Quinones, 23, of Compton, was a member of vehicle burglars who stole vehicles across Los Angeles and Ventura counties, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
The theft occurred in October and November 2024, and prosecutors said that the Kinonez and his accomplices would generally target new model vehicles.
“In all cases, thieves were able to steal the vehicle by using tools to gain electronic access and unlocking and manipulating the vehicle,” court documents state.
Both were arrested in connection with the crime after authorities searched the Kinonez home and the unidentified juvenile accomplice.

When the car theft was committed, the Kinones was on probation in LA County for a felony grand larceny.
“This ruling sends a clear message. Organized crimes targeting our community will not be unanswered,” said Catherine Plante, Ventura County District Attorney, who charged the case. . “Automatic theft preys on hardworking families, disrupt local businesses and fuels wider criminal activity. The results of which will make law enforcement efforts and hold perpetrators accountable. It reflects our commitment to this.”
On January 13, Quinonez pleaded guilty to one count of a felony of car theft. On February 11, he was sentenced to 16 months at the Ventura County Jail.
