The famous Los Angeles staple, Langer’s deli is now one of many restaurants across the United States to raise prices amid the national avian flu outbreak.
Located in the Westlake area of LA, the deli opened in 1947 and has established itself as a go-to place, especially for pastrami sandwiches.
Recently, he faced Langer’s challenges and even considered permanently closing due to the safety of the area and concerns of homelessness. But they remain open.
That said, this latest challenge, the outbreak of avian flu – along with other factors, has taken a step towards not liking many restaurants.

“At Langer’s deli, we understand that staple foods, such as eggs, coffee and bread, are especially affecting restaurants and customers. [and] Deli owner Norm Langer said in a social media statement posted on Sunday that we have always been committed to providing the highest quality food at fair prices… That commitment has changed “Not,” he said. “Like many people in the industry, supply chain disruption and inflation have significantly increased the costs of eggs and other essential ingredients.”
So, Langer is raising prices, but not “overall.”
“Some restaurants are increasing menu prices across the board, but to offset costs amidst the turmoil of bird flu, while making legendary pastrami sandwiches and other favorites accessible to loyal customers. We chose an extra charge per $0.50 per egg. The statement continued.
Last month’s consumer price index showed that the average price for a dozen grade A egg in the US was $4.95, a record high. In California, particularly in USDA data show that egg prices have risen by more than $9.
The surge in egg prices is the biggest since the country’s last invasion of avian flu in 2015, accounting for about two-thirds of total food costs increase last month, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
