A conflict at Crenshaw High School in Hyde Park caused an adult to be stabbed near campus Thursday morning, school officials said.
The attack was reported around 9am and when the Los Angeles Unified School Police Department called to assist in the knife attack, LAPD officer Chavez said.
LAPD officers came to the school in the 5000 block of 11th Street looking for three suspects, but school police later revealed that the attack occurred nearby, not on campus.
“This morning, individuals came to campus and were involved in a physical altercation with one of the students before school,” Principal Terrence Mudd said in a school community provided to KTLA by a LAUSD spokesman. He spoke in a letter to “The argument escalated and unfortunately an adult caregiver was stabbed outside of school.”
The melee of the attack placed the school in lockdown, but that lockdown was later lifted, Mudd added.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Initially, police said they were looking for three perpetrators, and “school police have arrested the suspects involved in the incident,” Madd added. Parents of the relevant students were also notified.
“From the abundant attention I requested that the school police be on campus for the rest of the day and asked them to be on campus mid-near week,” Madd said.
“The health and safety of our students remains our number one priority,” he added.
