After the video went viral in January, two Riverside police officers are facing charges, showing that they are causing damage to people’s property while not home.
Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez announced Friday that the county district attorney has decided to file charges against officers for misdemeanor vandalism.
“Last month, a video appeared showing one of my officers causing damage to skateboarding with what appears to be intentional,” Gonzalez said in a message to the community. “We’ve done both detective and internal investigations, so we understand that this has increased the patience and appreciation of our community.”
The somewhat odd footage posted to YouTube has earned over 556,000 views, with about half a dozen officers walking into what appears to be a residential driveway or patio area.
In the video, the narrator said the house belongs to the man’s girlfriend that police are trying to talk to, but reportedly no one was in the house when officers arrived.
Just knocking on the door and hearing the dog barked, leaving some officers in the driveway area.
While standing on the property, an officer grabbed a skateboard that was leaning nearby and rode it. The officers seemed to be testing it when they heard someone say “I’ll do olive.”
Officers made some unsuccessful attempts as others continued to stand around.
Eventually, all but two officers left the area, with the cameras picking up one of the remaining officers picking up a hammer, and both walked over to their skateboards.
The hammered officer stomps onto the top of the skateboard before breaking in half and leaving, the other appears to take a photo of the broken board.

The names of the two officers were not immediately provided by the police station, but Prime Minister Gonzalez said one of the officers is currently serving six years and the other has five years. I did.
“Let’s be clear. This behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the standards of the Riverside Police Department,” Gonzalez said. “We look forward to all executives supporting the integrity and professionalism that is worthy of our community.”
The Chief said the department’s internal investigation will remain ongoing and once completed, “take appropriate action.”
“Accountability is essential and I will continue to ensure that our community meets the standards we expect,” concluded Gonzalez.
