LAFD failed to deploy DEPLOY before Palisades Fire: Times Survey

Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Christine Crowley On Friday, Mayor Karen Bass cited the firefighters’ mistakes before the January 7th fire service began.

“We know that 1,000 firefighters have come up that could have been on work in the morning.

A series of investigations over the past few weeks have raised deep concerns about whether the Los Angeles Fire Department was prepared on January 7th despite extensive warnings about the hurricane’s strength wind and bone dry conditions.

Here’s what the Times reported:

Could not be deployed in advance

Top Los Angeles firefighters are the Pacific Palace. It decided not to allocate approximately 1,000 available firefighters and an engine carrying dozens of water for emergency deployments prior to the fires shown by Palisades, interviews and internal LAFD records.
The fire department chose not to order firefighters to serve for the second shift when the wind was being built.

I missed the opportunity

The LAFD may have sent at least 10 additional engines to Pallisard in the Pacific before the fire. This was told by Engine, who may have been patroling along the hillside and the canyon, told The Times.
The crew of these engines may have discovered the fire as soon as it began.

2025 vs 2011

Facing disastrous fire conditions in 2011, LAFD placed at least 40 extra fire engines at stations in areas where the highest fire risk, including Palisades. Additional rigs include over 20 pre-deployed deployments at these stations, as well as 18 “ready” engines to complement normal firefighting in such an emergency, and Records and interviews show.
This is in contrast to the decision made on January 7th.

The fire commission president said he would conduct an “independent audit” of the Palisade fire earlier this month.

palisades

The Times also investigated the chaotic evacuation of Pacific grapes on January 7th. The streets shook at least 40 minutes before the first extensive evacuation order. As the flames approached, firefighters and police told the driver to leave and run. The abandoned car made the jam worse and prevented the first counterpart from passing through. Residents trapped on blocked roads said they were forced to evacuate into place.
Decades of warnings have proven prophetic that the three main roads of the community are inadequate escape routes for the thousands of people living upstream of Palliss.
