The wrong direction driver caused a brief pursuit with California’s highway patrol, ending with crashing two vehicles that killed bystanders and seriously injured three other people, including pedestrians who had amputated them. Ta.
According to the CHP, officers tried to pull up vehicles in the eastern and Florence Street areas on Saturday at 11pm.
The pursuit ended at 11:14pm, and a few minutes later, firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the crash scene on Eastern Avenue and Randolph Street.
One person sitting on a bench was killed in the effects of the crash, and a pedestrian walking through the crosswalk had his leg amputated, according to the clock commander at the East Los Angeles Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
One person was declared dead on the scene. Two people inside the suspect’s vehicle suffered “major injuries” and were rushed to the hospital. The driver was treated at the hospital before being taken to the county jail, the watch commander said. The conditions of other residents and the number of residents were not immediately known, he said.
A fire department spokesperson said the other two suffered minor injuries and it was not immediately known whether they had been taken to the hospital.
“We’re still working behind us to figure out what happened,” the watch commander said.
