The California Wildlife Center has announced that it has been discovered that a potentially diseased toxin has been discovered.
The Centre, a Calabasas-based wildlife rescue service, said its team has responded to a total of 14 sick sea lions in the area over the past five days. Due to animal behavior and symptoms, the center believes that sea lions may be suffering from exposure to domain acids.
Domo acid is a toxin found in algae that can accumulate in algae, sardines, and anchovies. When shellfish or fish are consumed, the sea lion’s brain and heart can be impacted. Exposure can lead to a mammalian seizure or coma state.
“We have not confirmed the cause of disease in these animals, but their signs and recent rain make the situation highly suspicious about the toxicity of domoacid,” the California Wildlife Center said. I mentioned it in a social media post. “Malibu residents, visitors and other beach fans are encouraged to distance themselves from animals on the beach…”
The public is advised to refrain from interacting with animals that show signs of distress. Anyone who sees a sea lion potentially ill with domoic acid is urged to contact the Center’s Marines team at 310-924-7256.
