President Donald Trump celebrated on Sunday after German conservative opposition leader Friedrich Merz claimed victory in the national election and expelled incumbent Social Democrat Prime Minister Olaf Scholz.
“It appears that the German Conservative Party has won a very large and highly anticipated election,” Trump wrote in a post about True Society. “Like America, Germans are getting bored of the unconventional agenda, particularly about energy and immigration.
“This is a great day for Germany and for the United States under the guidance of a gentleman named Donald J. Trump,” he added. “Congratulations to everyone – more wins than ever!!!”
The German right-wing Christian Democrat Union (CDU) won the national election on Sunday. According to exit polls, the German Right-wing alternative (AFD) has finished a strong second.
Trump is scheduled to meet with DC’s world leaders during a busy week.

The SNAP election came as the European state tackles illegal immigration and the sour economy. CDU leader Meltz is expected to take a more difficult line than Scholz with immigration, although not as much as AFD supporters want.
Merz, who won about 29% of the vote, has to form a coalition with one or more other parties, but the AFD says he won’t.

Meltz said he would implement a 15-point plan to tackle immigration, including closing the border and ousting denied asylum seekers. The AFD wants to expel immigrants in large quantities.
The AFD may be frozen from the incoming coalition, but it doubled the total votes from the last election.

The party, which was approved by Trump and Elon Musk and led by Alice Weidel and Tino Crupala, believes it has built up momentum for the next election expected in 2029.
