Immigration rights activists united to patrol across the Los Angeles community, in some instances stopping the attack when they were happening.
A group, the Community Self-Defense Coalition, told KTLA it had defeated two attacks so far. One in the Alhambra and the other in the San Fernando.
It was early Sunday morning that community members heard group volunteers warning Alhambra’s Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
“There’s ice with spots in the Alhambra,” one activist says in video footage that shows a group of volunteers running to the scene.
Their group, the Community Self-Defense Coalition, consisting of over 100 volunteers, patrolled the streets of LA to inform immigration enforcement activities.
“We blame [ICE] Volunteer Rob Gosches warns the community with a megaphone,” he told Carlos Saucedo of Ktla. “We were there until the agents left. They didn’t invite anyone today.”
These anti-ice efforts come as the Trump administration is stepping up its crackdown on illegal immigration.
On Saturday, President Trump revived his tough stance at a conservative political action conference.
“Over the past few weeks, we have begun the largest deportation operation in American history, bigger than President Eisenhower’s,” Trump said.
Earlier this month, the LA Times obtained a note about the potential mass ice roundups that will take place in February. He said the operation will focus on people who do not have legal status in the country or have already pending removal orders.
So, activists said they also hand out these beneficial cards, so those who are not documented know their rights.
