Shocking surveillance video captured a speeding driver on Sunday night, placing a destructive road in a residential area in Pomona.
The footage shows that a illicit driver went out of control on South Palomales Street around 10pm, causing damage when he hit at least five parking cars.
“It’s now like 90 mph,” said nearby resident Anel Monterano.
Monterano told KTLA’s Rachel Menitov that the noise itself is enough to justify concerns.
“My partner grabbed the baby and we rushed to the room. We didn’t know what was going on,” Monterano said. “We knew it was a crash at the moment, and we heard the impact and we were like, ‘Oh, that’s an emergency.’ ”
The car ran down the street, giving some dangerous twists and using momentum to bounce back several parked cars.
The car then disappears from the frame, but the video provides the sound of the driver continuing his destructive path as the vehicle flies through the rest of the street.
“No one drives that way just their right mind, or the sound of hitting the car,” said Alyssa Ortega, another resident.
Ortega said the city refused a motion to install a speed bump. She is a precaution that she feels will alleviate the next person who chooses speed over safety.
“A lot of us have kids so I think it’s something that needs to be changed,” Ortega said.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
It is unclear whether the driver is disabled or driving under the influence, and the Pomona Police Station told KTLA that it cannot tell KTLA whether they have been arrested or not.
