Pennsylvania Democratic government Josh Shapiro announced Monday that $2.1 billion in federal funds have recovered to Pennsylvania after its unfrozen.

Shapiro sued the Trump administration on February 13, joining the first 22 states and the District of Columbia, filing a lawsuit in a lawsuit that challenged Trump’s “illegal” federal funds. Shapiro said legal action is needed to restore federal funds in Pennsylvania.

Shapiro, who was in Washington last week for the National Association of Governors (NGA), said he urged senior members of the Trump administration not to freeze federal funds.

“When I was in the White House on Friday, I once again raised the issue of frozen federal funds for President Trump’s senior team and members of his cabinet,” Shapiro told reporters Monday. “I urged them to follow the law and honor the agreement with Pennsylvania. As a result of that direct involvement last week, our funds have not been frozen. They are currently following the law. We will continue to encourage our lawsuits.”

Shapiro said his directness “was appropriately borrowed us” access to Pennsylvania’s funds.

“I was very direct with them. They were very sensitive to me. As a result, Pennsylvania now has something that we officially owe,” added Shapiro.

The White House Management and Budget Budget Agency directed on January 27th to suspend federal funds in accordance with Trump’s executive order. Federal judges had issued temporary restraining orders to stop the funding freeze ahead of Shapiro’s lawsuit, but only states with lawsuits against the Trump administration will access unfrozen funds. I was able to do that.

“As a result of our lawsuit and continued pressure and involvement with the Trump administration, we have requested that the administration comply with the legal injunction currently in place, so we have given immediate relief from the courts. It made it clear that we are ready to ask. The dollars we identified in our lawsuit filings are currently understanding and are once again accessible to all state agencies in Pennsylvania,” Shapiro said. Ta.

The $2.1 billion federal funds will restore what Shapiro described as “a critical program and infrastructure project that was at risk by this illegal freeze.” These programs include plugging abandoned wells, cleaning waterways, protecting farmers from runoff water, repairing mines and supplying clean water to Pennsylvanians, Shapiro said. He said several projects that were suspended have recovered and dozens of federal employees are now back to work.

Shapiro said it was his responsibility as governor to take legal action against the federal government if necessary for delivery to Pennsylvania.

“It’s my job to protect Pennsylvania’s interests. I’m free to use all the tools I can do, from legal action to direct involvement to ensure that Pennsylvanians are protected. Using all the tools available, make sure that the funds that Pennsylvanians rely on each day are dependent on Pennsylvanians. Federal tax pay is back to our federal and we borrow You will receive all the federal dollars that are there,” Shapiro said.

The legal dance of Trump’s enforcement actions is fully on display in Shapiro’s lawsuit, as the governor said it was the only way to freeze the federal fund in Pennsylvania. Shapiro’s legal victory is the latest in ongoing litigation between the state and federal governments.

During a governor’s work session at the White House on Friday, Shapiro told senior Trump officials to restore federal funds in the state.

Trump told Mills that NGA vice-president Kevin Stitt and R. Okra were told they were “unpleasant.” .

In a statement, Mills said Maine was “not threatened by the president’s threat.”

“If the President unilaterally tries to take away the benefits of federal funds to children in Maine’s schools, my administration and the Attorney General will be able to revive all the rights to restore that fund and the academic opportunities it offers. And they will take necessary legal action,” added Mills.
