The Southgate family is seeking answers after federal agents arrested an undocumented resident near an elementary school.
Nicholas Rodriguez’s family says he was arrested Monday morning near Liberty Elementary School on his way to an interview about employment. The man’s stepdaughter, Tilly Remedios, saw federal officials dropping off their son outside of school, but said he never imagined they were targeting her loved ones. I did.
“I dropped my son off and came back, and as soon as I entered my room my neighbor called me,” Remedios said. And she said, “Well, we just saw them taking Nick.” ”
When she told her normal morning farewell to her mistress, she had no idea what to follow.
“He kissed me, he said, ‘See you later,’ and said, ‘OK NIC.’ “I never realised that it was the last time I’d seen him.”
Rodriguez has a violent criminal history dating back to the 90s. He was found 1996 guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the case. According to court documents, he was found guilty of a lawsuit. In 2003 he was arrested and later convicted of possession of a controlled substance. These convictions resulted in two deportation orders in 2000 and 2005.
His family in Southgate said they were shocked that he was arrested after his crime took place more than 20 years ago.
“As I said when he met me, he did work and never stopped,” Lorraine said.
The family is not sure what Rodriguez’s future will be like now.
Rodriguez pleaded not guilty to his arrest Tuesday and was jailed without being held. His trial is scheduled to begin on April 22nd.
