Gov. Gavin Newsom visited East Los Angeles College to address the economic fees the wildfires tackled California, discussing strategies for recovery and his vision for the state’s future. He was invited to the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation. The Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation is conducting a survey on the economic impact of wildfires.
In his speech, Governor Newsom hoped that the state’s revival efforts, along with a prompt pursuit of tracking permit, would not only support reconstruction, but also promote housing developments throughout the state. He emphasized the importance of encouraging local governments to take prompt action to deal with the housing crisis.
When asked about Mayor Karen Bass’ recent shooting of Los Angeles Fire Chief Christine Crowley during the crisis, Gov. Newsom declined to speak to him, saying he had no sufficient information about the situation.
However, he highlighted the importance of cooperation during the crisis, citing his own experience working with President Donald Trump as an example. Newsom noted that despite political differences it is essential to work together in disasters and highlight his own efforts to secure federal support for California’s recovery.
“We can agree that we disagree, but at the end of the day it is essential that we all work together in the framework of this disaster and recovery,” Gov. Newsom said.
In an astonishing announcement, Governor Newsom revealed that he will launch his own podcast. He explained that the podcast serves as a platform for direct involvement with people, including those who may strongly oppose him, promoting open dialogue and providing a fresh perspective beyond traditional political discourse. “We need to change the conversation,” he said.
Additionally, the Los Angeles Fire Department issued a report that highlighted an inadequate staffing and ongoing struggle with resources, despite what was written before the wildfire. The report called for a recovery in the fire department’s operating budget, which was cut by the Mayor of Bus, and highlighted the need for more funds to advance the sustainability of the sector.
