The line against Beijing is depicted in Little Rock.
“We are taking a strong position against China, which is permeating the state,” says Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders. “We’ll keep turning back.”
Arkansas is the first state in the country to force China-connected businesses to sell farmland, and it says it is now taking additional steps against the CCP.

Sanders is introducing new laws that will stop Chinese state-owned companies from running businesses in her state and add further steps to shut down Chinese-sponsored programs.
These measures include banning CCP-related companies from purchasing or leasing real estate, blocking ownership near critical infrastructure sites, reducing partnerships in sister cities, and funding from universities and universities with Chinese-funded programs.
“We’ve seen many cases of China trying to infiltrate what is important and buy land around military bases. These are strong actions in Arkansas, allowing us to expand existing laws and continue to step into the fire and push them out,” says Thunder.

In 2023, the state ordered the seeds of China’s conglomerate Syngenta and ordered the farmland used to produce seeds.
The company said, “The proposal that China is using syngenta to purchase land is simply incorrect to say that it is purchasing or implementing the land for purposes other than to support the company’s commercial business in North America.” However, the state initially fined the company $280,000 for not disclosing foreign ownership by the deadline.
“Sygenta is a foreigner – ultimately by the Chinese Communist Party,” Arkansas Attorney General Tim Miller said he had announced the penalty.
“This serves as a warning to all other Chinese state-owned companies operating in Arkansas.”

“Agriculture is the number one industry here in Arkansas, so protecting the security of agriculture and protecting the components that make it so powerful is one of the things that really matters,” says Sanders.
Two other companies are being investigated for possible ties with China, but in December a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction to suspend one of them.
At least 22 states have instituted some form of restrictions on Chinese-owned businesses.
“The CCP has a positive intention, making it more aggressive and threatening, both at home and abroad. We need to be aware of these threats,” says Michigan Senator John Mourenard, chairman of the House Selection Committee on CCP. He says more states should follow Sanders’ lead.
“She is taking on the leadership role in Arkansas, protecting farmland and green spaces, and ensuring that CCPs do not gain foothold in Arkansas. We want to increase the number of states that take this type of action,” he says.

For several years, authorities have warned that China’s entry into the United States, through businesses and other organizations, that it poses a national security threat.
Michael Pillsbury, a former U.S. government official on China’s issue and a senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation, is warning. He wrote The One100 Year Marathon, China’s secret strategy to replace America as a global superpower tenure 10 years ago, and says it hasn’t changed much since.
“It’s very important that Governor Sanders is launching,” he says. “It’s part of building a long-term foundation to protect herself from the CCP, but unless she manages to persuade Homeland Security and the FBI to make this a federal issue, that’s not the end of the story.”
“Arkansas doesn’t have the CIA or FBI to do this. An intelligence collection that triggers alarms is something the federal government has to do.”

Experts say it is difficult to determine whether a Chinese company, which is part of CCP’s strategy, really owns it.
“There’s really no such thing as private companies in China,” says Moolenaar. “All companies have partnered in some way and are directed in some way by the Communist Party of China. Secondly, it is important to note that there is something called military fusion.
He says that China-funded programs run under the guise of education programs will also help promote the interests of CCPs. Mourenard pointed to a recent incident in Michigan, causing an alarm.
“The Chinese Communist Party will take advantage of the people,” he says. “Five Chinese national students caught spies at Camp Greyling. Camp Greyling is a military facility and, according to public reports, trains military leaders, including Taiwan’s military leaders. Therefore, when we consider the threat of leverage by the Chinese Communist Party, we need to be vigilant and protect and protect the American taxpayer dollar.”

Five Chinese students were charged with lying to the FBI last fall. The FBI said all five graduated from the University of Michigan last spring and are part of the joint programme of the university and Shanghai Ziaoton University in Shanghai, China.
This is exactly the type of questionable scenario that Sanders is trying to deal with.
“We know that China wants to find and develop every possible way, with the purpose of leveraging it and retrieving that information and using it against us,” she says. “We want to make sure we’re following it.”
The Chinese Embassy in Washington has accused the United States of “weaponizing the economic and trade issues of politicization and weaponization.” Embassy spokesman Liu Pengyu said that US officials “(a) intentionally interfere with the exchange of normal economic and trade on political agenda.”

But critics say that CCPs are spoofing commerce and friendship.
“We need to be proactive,” warns MP Mourenard. “We don’t need to look for smoking guns that much. We need to look for loaded guns that are actually a threat to America.”
