The nomination of former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) CEO Linda McMahon, President Donald Trump’s choice to lead the Department of Education, heads to the final Senate vote after passing final procedural hurdles in the confirmation process.
The Chamber of Commerce passed a coagulation vote Thursday afternoon to advance McMahon’s appointment to the final floor voting to determine confirmation.
Trump protected McMahon as head of education.

Trump also says he wants McMahon to “get himself out of work.”

“It’s a big fraudulent job,” the president said the day before the McMahon confirmation hearing. “They are ranked among the top countries in the world. We are ranked 40th, but we are ranked 1st in one category. Cost per student. So they cost more per student than any other country in the world, but they are ranked 40th.”

McMahon testified before the Senate’s Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (Help) committee in February, and testified that it focuses on the idea that “education is a matter of determining the success of our nation and preparing American workers to win the future.”
The confirmation hearing was characterized by a discussion of protesters, biological men’s participation in women’s sports, and a recent scrutiny of spending reductions proposed by Government Efficiency (DOGE), the newly formed cost-cutting arm led by Elon Musk.

McMahon served as a Small Business Administrator (SBA) administrator after co-founding WWE with her husband Vince McMahon until 2019 to resign to “return to the private sector.”
