The bus service between Malibu and Santa Monica will be partially restored on Friday nearly two months later, as it had been previously suspended due to the Palisade fire.
LA Metro will be running buses on the 134 lines for the first time since service was suspended on January 7th.
Line 134 will bypass the 10-mile work zone on the Pacific Coast Highway between Temescal Canyon Road and Rambla Vista to operate closed door services, Metro says.
Stops are available at Malibu Pier, Cross Creek Road, Civic Center Way, Malibu Canyon Road, and Santa Monica between Santa Monica Line Line Station and Ocean Avenue/Colora Door Avenue.
“Resuming services on line 134 is an important step in supporting residents and commuters who rely on this route from Malibu to Santa Monica,” said Lindsey Horvas, a member of the Metro Commission and LA County overseer.
The Palisade fire ignited in a remote area in the Santa Monica Mountains last month, spreading quickly due to strong winds and dry conditions. The flames forced evacuation and damage infrastructure, including major transport routes. Recent rains have caused landslides and debris flows, further complicating recovery efforts.

“A partial recovery of this service has become an important part of the recovery as the January wildfires devastated the LA area and disrupts the connectivity of communities within and around the fire zone,” said Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins.
The restored service is intended to reconnect Malibu and Santa Monica, but Metro officials have warned that operations have not yet returned to normal. One-lane traffic and a speed limit of 25 mph within the work zone will allow for delays to be expected.
The schedule will be reviewed and adjusted as needed, they said.
Malibu Mayor Doug Stewart praised the effort, noting the importance of public transport in the recovery of the community.
“This amended service ensures a careful balance of safety and ensures a safe and reliable way for residents, workers and business patrons to travel around the area,” he said.
Metro says riders should plan potential delays and remain patient as recovery efforts continue.
