A woman breaks into an Inland Empire animal shelter and gets caught up in cameras where she escapes with more than 12 dogs.
Staff said the woman broke into the shelter Wednesday morning and released 20 of the 300 dogs inside the San Bernardino city animal shelter.
“It appears that around 3:30am someone cut the lock at the main gate of the facility, locked around 10 doghouses, and released the dogs into the street.”
Later that day, the woman returned and said she knew where the dog was.
“They were coming back and asking about additional things like they knew where the dog was,” Watson said. “We said, did you come here and let them go? They said I know where they are.”
Police detained the woman and arrested her, not before leading staff to the trash can a few blocks away.
A Chihuahua named Louis is still missing. The other 19 dogs were found and returned to the shelter.
The shelter has increased security and says some of the stolen dogs are in the adoption process.
Police have not yet disclosed the name or her motives of the woman who was arrested.
