Texas lawmakers have introduced legislation that amends the state’s ban on gender transition procedures or treatment of minors, which also applies to lonely star state adults.
Submitted by Republican Rep. Brent Money, HB 3399, changes language in current laws that prohibit gender transition procedures or treatment by replacing the word “child.”
Money proposals prohibit medical procedures “for the purpose of transitioning a person’s biological sex” or “affirming a person’s perception of a person’s sexuality.”

Surgery and adolescent arrest medications are prohibited, with the exception of prescribing doctors who prescribe adolescent medications to children with parental consent to normalize adolescents and doctors for surgery for those born with “verified genetic disorders of sexual development.”
Those who have already started puberty blockers must withdraw from the drug in a “medically appropriate” way, such as “minimizing the risk of complications.”
Texas has an estimated 93,000 transgender adults, the third most common state after California and Florida alone, according to the Williams Institute, a law school at UCLA. Around 30,000 Texans between the ages of 13 and 18 are transgender, making it the third most common state after California and New York.

Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill banning the gender movement of transgender youth after it was approved by the state legislature in 2023.
According to FOX 7, the law was challenged in the Texas Supreme Court, sought to block the law by arguing that lawsuits attempting to block the law would have devastating consequences for transgender teenagers who are unable to receive the treatment recommended by their doctors and parents.

However, the court upheld the ban in its 8-1 ruling last summer. The state Supreme Court said it allowed the state to “legislate basic parental rights,” and only one judicial opposed it.
Texas is one of at least 25 states that have laws restricting or prohibiting gender mobility treatment for transgender minors.
