(Report) – A FedEx cargo plane caused a fire and had to make an emergency landing at Newar Liberty International Airport.
After the land had hit 8am ET, traffic was temporarily suspended approximately an hour later.
Social media footage showed the fire underneath the plane that began to land at the airport. No one was injured.
Recent air disasters and close calls have fears about flight safety
“The FedEx Flight 3609 from Newark to Indianapolis experienced a bird strike during takeoff,” a FedEx spokesperson said in a statement to the report.
“Our B767 crew declared an emergency and after dealing with the resulting engine damage, including an engine fire, they safely returned to Newark.”
“The training, expertise and professionalism demonstrated by the FedEx pilots were exemplary. We are grateful for the prompt action of our crew and first responders.”
This follows several aviation incidents in recent weeks, including a United Airlines flight that has recently landed an emergency in Newark on a delta flight from Atlanta and reported smoke.
