A Southern California man was convicted of rape and sexually assaulting a woman in a motel.
Caleb Dean Devinion, 36, was found guilty on ju trial on February 21, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. Devinion is also a registered sex offender, officials said.
The crime involved a woman who was 30 years old and homeless at the time. Devinion had met the victim and her mother several times. On May 24, 2023, he offered them the use of a motel room in Thousand Oaks to shower and refresh themselves.
The woman accepted the offer and “disclosed that she would not provide anything in return,” court documents said.
The young woman first entered the motel room. While in the shower, Da said Devinion went into the toilet and stepped into the shower, sexually assaulting her completely naked.

After taking a shower, Devinion continued to assault the woman despite telling him to stop. After the assault, he is forced to shower again by the victim. The woman was eventually able to escape from the room and immediately contacted the authorities.
Devinion was arrested at the scene and was later convicted by a ju-degree man for forced rape, false imprisonment, forced oral mating, sexual artillery, counting two sexual penetration by force or fear, and a special allegation that the victim was vulnerable.
In 2009, Devinion pleaded guilty to a sex crime case, the Ventura County star reported. In the judicial agreement, he admitted guilt over one count of sexual penetration by foreign bodies, but three other felony counts, including oral mating in people under the age of 16, were dismissed.
As part of that agreement, Devinion was ordered to register as a sex offender. In 2010, he attempted to appeal the registration but failed.
“I offer a sincere thanks to the victim for the courage he has faced with the accuser in court,” said Rosa Romero, Ventura County District Attorney, who charged the case.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 15th.
