The left-wing party tapped Democrat California Rep. Lattefa Simon, a longtime friend and mentee of former Vice President Kamala Harris, to respond to President Donald Trump’s speech to Congress on Tuesday.
“I am honored to speak on behalf of the Workers’ Family Party,” Simon said in a statement last week. “We need a government that runs for workers, not billionaires. That’s what WFP is fighting for. Looking at what’s going on in our country, it’s essential that we as members of Congress show up for our community and remind people that it has to be this way.”
The Workers’ Family Party, a small leftist party, featured MPs Ayana Presley, former Jamal Bowman and Rashida Tribe in response to the president’s joint speech to Congress the previous year.

Simon is a California-leading freshman lawmaker and shares a long friendship with former 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. She spoke with NPR ahead of last November’s election. “I really believed in her. The young woman I worked with believed in her. But I didn’t think I’d work for her for a million years,” Simon told NPR in August.

He served as the board chair of the Bay Area Rapid Transit System in 2020, where he supported unarmed ambassadors advocated for “refunds and abolishment” on public transport.
Fox News Digital previously reported that Simon has more than a decade of friendship with the top executives of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) who strongly praises X’s executives for praise.

“I am extremely honored to have Vice President Kamala Harris, my mentor and former boss,” Simon said on January 7th.
