Even Oscar was not a safe space for rapper Drake, who was once again the subject of ocklol due to his long-standing feud with Kendrick Lamar.
Out near the halftime mark of the ceremony, Oscar host Conan O’Brien joked at Drake’s expense and called back to Kendrick Lamar’s recent performance at Super Bowl Halftime Show.
“Well, we’re in the middle of the show. So it’s time for Kendrick Lamar to come out and call Drake a pedophile,” O’Brien told the crowd.
The joke was a reference to the Grammy-winning song “Not Like Us,” a product of Lamar’s feud with Drake, which includes a less intense accusation of the Canadian-born rapper.
“Drake, Drake, I hear you like “young,”” says one lyric. “Try to hide Lil’s sister from him,” says another.
During the performance of Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, a crowd of tens of thousands joined in one go for the song’s most famous lyrics.
The two rappers have worked together in the past, but there has been no love lost in recent years. Drake recently said he’s interested in moving out of beef, but after the critical and commercial success of “not like us,” many people in the hip-hop community believe that the knockout blow landed long before he made that decision.
