The Department of Defense can save up to $80 million in wasted spending by reducing the number of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs, the agency said Monday.

The Department of Defense is working with the Elon Musk-led Government Efficiency Office (DOGE) to significantly reduce wasteful spending, DOD spokesman Sean Parnell said in a video posted on social media.

Parnell listed some of the original findings by Doge. Many of them consist of millions of dollars given to support a variety of DEI programs.

Among the initial findings, $1.6 million to the University of Florida studied the social and institutional disadvantages of vulnerability to climate risk in Africa.

“This is not a core function of our military,” Parnell said. “This is not what we do. These kinds of things are distracting us from our core mission.”

“We believe these initial findings will likely save $80 million on wasted spending,” he added.

In his efforts to consume, Defense Secretary Pete Hegses has listed five things he accomplished after instructing DOD private workers to comply with mask Doge productivity emails and told them not to respond first.

Last week, Hegseth said his agency would work with Doge. Doge conducted reviews of the Department of Finance, Labor, Education and Health sectors, conducted by the Consumer Financial Protection Agency, the Department of Personnel Management and Internal Revenue Services (IRS).

He added that many Doge workers are veterans and it is a “good thing” for them to find flaws.

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses speaks to the media on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 during his visit to the headquarters of Kelly Barracks’ African Command and African Command in Germany.

“They, like us, care about finding redundancy and identifying the last trace of Biden’s priorities. Day, awakened, Climate Change BS, that’s not the heart of our mission.

Doge is under scrutiny, with some accusing President Donald Trump of giving masks too much room and access to sensitive data.
