California Governor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order on Monday. This will require state employees to return to personal work for at least four days a week starting this summer.
The order requires that the new hybrid policy be effective by July 1st.
The order includes CALHR instructions to facilitate certain former federal employees to start working in California.
Governor Newsom declares a state of emergency ahead of wildfire season
Thousands of state employees began working from home permanently during the Covid-19 pandemic, with many moving towards a hybrid working model. Some agencies require in-person work at least one or two days or every other week.
A news release issued by the governor’s office states that more than 224,000 people are employed in the state, with more than half of them working on some kind of hybrid model.
Calhr, the state’s personnel agency, will issue more guidance, including employees hired with an agreement to work remotely or remotely from the state’s office.
In light of recent firing at the federal level brought about by government efficiency, Newsom’s order directs state personnel agencies to streamline the hiring process for former federal employees in certain sectors.
A statement from the governor’s office said the directive is for key positions “in addition to the role of fire service, extreme weather forecast climate resilience and water management, as well as other important areas such as healthcare and mental health care.”
