House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries, DN.Y., points out that he will be attending President Donald Trump’s Tuesday night speech before a joint session of Congress.
“Given our responsibilities in the House, we have made it clear that the nation has a strong opposition party ready to balance it with the government’s overcheck and willing to balance it,” Jeffries said in a message to his colleagues.
Trump’s speech takes less than two months from his second president’s term.

“I understand that the decision to participate in a joint session is personal and that members will reach different conclusions,” Jeffries noted.
“But it’s important to have a strong, determined, dignified and democratic presence in the room. The home as an institution belongs to the American people, and as their representative we will not run away from the block or be bullied,” he continued.
Some Democrats have announced they will skip the event.

“The union’s condition is that the president is spewing in the face of the law,” D-Wash said. Sen. Patty Murray of the company, argued that “he insists on free destruction of unelected billionaires fire cancer researchers and federal agencies like the Social Security Agency.”
Nancy Pelosi, the house speaker at the time, became famous for tearing the pages of Trump’s speeches in 2020 after the president gave his national speech.

“Our focus is on keeping the high cost of living for everyday Americans and opposing the far-right extremism that has freed the country by Republicans,” Jeffries said. “We appreciate your continued leadership on behalf of people and in advocating for the American way of life.”
