ISIS-K members who confessed to training gunmen involved in the attacks of terrorist near Moscow last year, accusing President Donald Trump of the 2021 monastery gate bombing in Afghanistan in 2021, confessing to training gunmen involved in the terrorist attacks near Moscow last year, according to a Department of Justice affidavit.

Muhammad Sharihura is expected to appear in his first federal court in Virginia on Wednesday, accused of conspiring to provide material support and resources to designated foreign terrorist organizations that will lead to death. If convicted, he faces the biggest penalty he has in prison.

The Justice Department has released photos showing FBI Director Kash Patel, Attorney General Pam Bondi and Tulsi Gabbard’s Director of National Intelligence at the airport awaiting Sharifullah’s arrival this morning in the US

President Trump announced the capture of Sharihula during a speech before the council last night, saying he was “pleasant to announce that we have just been arrested” that he was responsible for the remaining atrocities that killed 13 U.S. service members in August 2021.

What was the attack on the monastery’s gate?

During the US military withdrawal in the summer of 2021, the US and Allied forces were conducting evacuation operations at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.

According to the Justice Department, the monastery gate was the main entry point for the operation, with thousands of civilians in the area on August 26, 2021.

“Abdul Rahman Al Rogali – Abdul Rahman Al Rogali, a member of Iraq and Ash Sham Khorasan Province (ISIS-K), exploded a body-mounted suicide bomb attack at the monastery gates, killing 13 US military service members and around 160 civilians,” the Justice Department said.

The US withdrawal was completed a few days later, and the Taliban later claimed control of Afghanistan.

The affidavit released by the Justice Department said that a special FBI agent interviewed Sharihura earlier this week, revealing that he had been in an Afghan prison from 2019 until about two weeks before the attack on the monastery’s gates.

“After Sharifullah’s release, members of ISIS-K contacted Sharifullah to arrange his support in future attacks,” the affidavit said he said in an interview.

“ISIS-K members provided Sharifullah with motorcycles, cell phone and SIM card funding, and instructions to open an account for opening an account on certain social media platforms during attack operations. After preparing for the attack, Sharifullah was tasked with scouting the route near Hamid Karzai International Airport.” “Sharifullah conducted surveillance on the route, particularly checking law enforcement and US or Taliban checkpoints.

“Sharifullah told other ISIS-K members that they believed the route was clear and that they didn’t expect an attacker to be detected when they followed that route. The ISIS-K members then instructed Sharifullah to leave the HKIA area.” “That same day, Sharihula learned of the attack on Hkia and recognized the bomber as an ISIS-K operative whom he knew while in prison.”

The affidavit also alleged that Sharihula trained gunmen involved in the terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert venue in Moscow in March 2024, killing around 130 people.

“In an interview with FBI special agents after waived Miranda’s rights around March 2, 2025, Sharifullah said: Sharifullah received orders from a known ISIS-K senior leader and provided instructions to Moscow attackers on how to properly use AK-style rifles and other weapons. “Shariflah shared video instructions with several individuals. After the attack, Russian authorities arrested four gunmen in connection with the attack. Sharifullah recognized the two individuals as the same people who provided firearm training videos.”

National Security Advisor Michael Waltz said on Wednesday that the families of the victims of Abby Gate were “emotional” when Trump called them to inform them of Sharihula’s capture.

“The president said to these families in Arlington, ‘We’re going to get this guy.’ We share the intelligence news with Pakistan, he will roll up and he will be tried in a US court,” Waltz said.

“Under President Trump’s strong leadership on the world stage, the Justice Department will ensure that terrorists like Mohammad Sharihula have no safer shelters, no second chances or worse enemies than the United States,” Bondy added Wednesday.

Patel also said his agency will “continue to hunt down those who have viciously murdered our warriors, and those who bring them to justice,” and his agency will “never forget the loss of these American heroes.”
