Los Angeles County is suing Southern California Edison, who allegedly caused the fatal Eaton fires in Altadena and Pasadena earlier this year.
The lawsuit, filed Wednesday, alleges that SCE equipment caused a fatal flame and required the county to cover the large costs of dealing with the fire and its aftermath,” the county advisory office said in a news release.
The Eton Fire, which destroyed the county’s parks and other public infrastructure, was “started directly under the SCE power lines in Eton Canyon,” the release said.

The 14,000-acre Eton Fire killed 17 people, injured firefighters and others, and destroyed or damaged more than 10,000 structures.
The total cost of the destruction has not been determined yet, but “it is estimated to be at least hundreds of millions of dollars,” the release said.
County attorney Darwin R. Harrison said the county is suing for damages infrastructural, recreational areas, parks and road damage, cleaning and recovery efforts, preventing floods and landslides, workers’ compensation claims, workers’ overtime and tax losses, and more.
“We are committed to seeking justice for the Altadena community in Los Angeles County and for the taxpayers,” she said.
Edison did not immediately return a request for comment.
