On a cold, cloudy winter morning in 2006, the body of a teenager was found in a loading dock in an abandoned warehouse in the industrial district of Boyle Heights.
The deceased teen was later identified as Emmarie Munoz, a resident of City Terrace and a student at Francis Co Bravo Medical Magnet High School. At the time, the 14-year-old was remembered as cheerful and ambitious with her dream of becoming a nurse.
Emmery Munoz was found to have been murdered on January 25, 2006 in the loading dock area of a business in Boyle Heights.
Nearly 20 years after her stranglehold death, detectives at the Los Angeles Police Department are making new efforts to find her murderer.
“She was taken away from Quinkeanella, Prom, graduation, her career that she had so dreamed of.
“Our family still has the strongest desire for closure today, just as she was when she was first taken from us. The sister, who was only six years old when Emmery was murdered, does not trust the justice she is entitled to.
The press conference was also intended to show that detectives never gave up on finding a teenage murderer.

Despite the detective’s commitment, there are no suspects or solid leads yet to pursue the murderer.
As people’s memories faded 19 years later, video footage, cell phone records and tracking devices from the time were limited.
“People are moving, people are growing and living their lives,” DET. John Meneseth said that Emmalie’s body was found on the morning of January 25, 2006, but added some evidence when he didn’t elaborate.
Menes said Emmery may know the perpetrator, but investigators may be open to all possibilities.
“People who were once young children are now adults and they want to have their own family and they understand the need to bring forward the information we are looking for,” Meneseth said.
