City of Los Angeles (HACLA) housing authorities have suspended 3,300 families’ processing housing applications due to federal funding cuts in the Section 8 program, the agency announced.
Section 8 programs help you keep your rental homes affordable and fight overcrowding and homelessness.
The decision comes amidst continued financial uncertainty, but Hakula said he is committed to ensuring that current voucher holders and families with housing support will not evacuate.

“The economic and human impacts of these funding gaps cannot be overstated. Without additional resources, Los Angeles could see an increase in housing instability, affecting thousands of families, property owners and the wider community,” the news release said.
According to the agency, about $800 million has been brought into the local economy through rental payments to private property owners and developers on behalf of program participants.
Hacla warns that budget uncertainty could affect more than 13,000 property owners who rely on these grants to maintain stable housing for their tenants.
Local governments are federally funded and told the LA Times they don’t expect Congress to provide enough cash this year to maintain their current business.
