Advance Auto Parts plans to close all California locations by mid-March as the automotive giant car giant carries out its massive restructuring plan.
The store closure was announced in November in a federal warning notice.
More than 1,600 workers will lose their jobs as the remaining stores of 137 auto parts retailers across California are shuttered. The closure begins in early February and will ultimately cover more than 725 locations across the country. (Complete list of California locations)
Advance Auto Parts is trying to stop deep losses driven by weak demand as few drivers choose to repair their cars.
It recorded an operating loss of $820 million in the fourth quarter.
“In 2024, we launched transformational action to reposition progress for long-term success and value creation,” Shane O’Kelly, president and CEO of Advant Auto Parts, said in a statement.
In addition to the closure of the store, the company’s plans include consolidating distribution centres to operate 12 large-scale facilities by the end of 2026, and opening 60 market hub locations by mid-2027.
