Trump faces calls to cut American Legal Association from the judicial candidate process

Several Republican senators have had problems with the American Bar Association (ABA) and are asking President Donald Trump to take dramatic action against the group. In a letter to President Aba Bey, lawmakers said the group that plays a key role in judicial nominations was “captured in prejudice and ideological terms.” Now, these lawmakers want President Trump to “fully remove the ABA from the judicial nomination process.”

Sens. Eric Schmidt, Ted Cruz, Marsha Blackburn, Sens. Josh Hawley, Bernie Moreno and Mike Lee have called on Sens. senators to “ignoring the ABA recommendations.”

The explosive letter alleges that the ABA has taken a political stance against the Trump administration, and that the group is quiet about receiving funds from USAID. Federal aid groups have been targeted by the Trump administration, which the ABA criticized.

“Aba says, “Americans are hoping to do better.” However, President Trump won both election and popular votes.

Senator Schmidt tweeted the letter along with some criticism of the ABA’s recent actions and statements. In particular, Schmidt had problems with statements issued by the ABA on February 10th and March 3rd. Both were critical of the Trump administration.

“It’s been three weeks since their inauguration. Most Americans recognize that newly elected leaders will make a difference. That’s what we expect. But most Americans expect change to follow the rule of law,” the ABA wrote in a statement on February 10th. Furthermore, the February 10th statement condemns the “demolition of USAID.”

Law professors say they will focus on race and gender.

The senator referred to the statement in the letter, saying the ABA had made “inflammatory claims” against the Trump administration “without citing legal reasoning for these arguments.” One of these claims is that “dismantling the USAID” is illegal, but the senator points out that the ABA has not explained why these actions are not permitted under the law.

“It is doubtful whether the ABA is committed to protecting freedom or funding its own source of funding,” the senator wrote, referring to the organization’s defense of the USAID.

Lawmakers also criticized the ABA’s March 3 statement, which argued that the group “employs to undermine the courts.” In their letter, lawmakers point out that when the association protested the Supreme Court over student loan forgiveness, they did not issue a statement to former President Joe Biden.

In their letter, the senators call for the implementation of the ABA’s diversity, equity and inclusion policies that the Trump administration has worked to eradicate from the government.
