The two business owners received a complimentary food cart as part of Long Beach’s new initiative to support small business owners.
The city’s “Sidewalk to Success” program aims to support street vendors by easing some financial burdens. This program covers the costs of a business license and allows first year fees. We will also refund participants’ insurance costs.
Ashley Arnold, owner of Ladie Kakes, is one of the first two recipients of the free food cart. She uses new tools to sell baked goods.
“I seem a little overjoyed just because I never imagined I had a dessert cart,” she said. “I got a cart, gave her a name, got her a wrap.
Long Beach announced its program last February after the city’s sidewalk vending ordinance came into effect, which helps regulate street vending and streamline the process of obtaining permits. As part of the initiative, up to 40 food vending carts will be provided to vendors meeting city standards.
