The hateful message left on restaurant receipts is overflowing with support, staff say

The public gathers behind a Mexican restaurant in Ohio after customers say they have left a hateful message instead of tips.

The messages seen in photos shared on social media seemed to point to the growing tensions surrounding immigrants. Within 24 hours, the post went viral.

Some employees at Cazuelas Mexican Cantina said the incident made them startled and emotional.

“This is a place for love, you know, you’re just relaxing and having a good time,” said Fabio Olivo, head of marketing at Kazuelas.

Cazuelas’ servers said they love their work and love serving people.

“It seems this woman came in and Ricardo, a great person, was taking care of her,” Olivo said. “He only works one day a week, Sundays. He has two jobs. From what I’ve heard…she wasn’t happy with coupons and so on.”

The employee said they found a receipt on the table after the woman and her family left. Instead of hints, they say that receipts on the signature line “Zero. You suck” are “I hope Trump will deport you!!!”

“It’s just not right, it’s just not right,” Olivo said. “He’s a really nice guy and like I said, we’re all… coming here every day to do our job, it’s about serving people and having a good time.”

Another employee took a photo of the receipt and posted it on social media later that day. I received over 8,000 reactions within 24 hours.

“We never expected to go that viral or get that response. Thankfully, all the communities were really supportive,” Olivo said.

Employees said a group of customers are scheduled to come next Sunday when Ricardo works and creates a special day for him.

“This is just a space to be inclusive and there is no space for hatred within Cazuelas,” Olivo said.

Employees hope that there will be some benefit from sharing this story.

“Just try to be happy or happy. If not… don’t try to ruin other people’s lives or dislike them. That’s just not right,” Olivo said.

The woman accused of leaving a hateful message was allegedly identified online. WCMH on Nexstar has learned that the woman is a Columbus real estate agent. A Century 21 spokesman has since issued a statement regarding the incident.

“We are aware of the situation of the agent in question. Hatred has no place within the Century 21 brand. The statement reads: “We can investigate the situation, connect with each broker and make sure that this agent is no longer affiliated with the brand as all companies belonging to the Century 21 brand operates independently.”

Women’s social media has since been deleted.
