The Oregon governor has signed a declaration that marks the March 10th “Abortion Provider Appreciation Day” to reaffirm her administration’s commitment to “maintaining access to abortion care statewide.”
“We understand that here in Oregon, abortion is health care and providers can continue to provide care without interference and threats,” Gov. Tina Kotek said in a statement. “I know that I have your back to our healthcare providers and to patients who live in Oregon or are forced to retreat to our state for care.”
Shortly after the November election, authorities said Kotec had directed the Oregon Health Department (OHA) to partner with OHSU on behalf of a three-year supply of Mifepristone, a drug therapy approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to end pregnancy.
The governor said she will work with providers and the OHA to monitor and identify ways she can mitigate federal threats to reproductive care.

“Oregon leads the country with the most powerful protections for access to reproductive health care, including abortion. In these uncertain times, we protect our values,” Kotek wrote in X’s post.
Oregon Senate Republicans shared their response to Kotech’s declaration and denounced the governor, focusing on “abortion providers’ thanks” for fixing other issues in the state.
“Would you fix the crime?Would you fix the school?Would you fix the affordable price? No… Kotek will instead declare “Abortion Provider Appreciation Day,”” the group posted on X with a meme attached.
In 2023, Kotek signed Access to the Reproductive Health Act, House Bill 2002. The bill provides state funding to support the work of community organizations and clinical partners to protect access to reproductive care and ensure broader access to reproductive care that states need.
The bill allows minors to undergo sexual reassignment surgery or to undergo abortion without parental permission.

“The bill is a new low for Oregon and represents even greater losses for children and parents,” fans told Fox News Digital. “Imagine being a father or mother who learns that their child has made a life-changing decision without consent or notice.”

According to the governor’s office, reproductive health equity has been a long-standing priority for Kotek, both from his days as speaker at Oregon House and during his tenure as governor.
Prolife group Oregon’s Right to Living responded to the governor’s declaration and said they did not support the measure.

“You may have heard of abortion providers’ thanks day, but we are not celebrating abortion. We are honoring the brave former abortion workers who have chosen to leave the industry,” the organization wrote in a post on X.
Of the 10,075 abortions provided in Oregon in 2023, 1,661 were out-of-state patients, reflecting an increase of nearly 60% from the previous year, according to data from the Oregon Department of Health.
