Domestic violence suspects who took a “shooting stance” and turned their eyes to the police were shot

The standoff with a domestic violence suspect ended Monday afternoon, when the suspect was shot by an officer and taken to hospital in critical condition.

The hour-long standoff took place in Montclair following the pursuit that began at Chino.

Chino police officers responded to a home in the 14,000 block of Monte Vista Avenue to report a domestic violence incident. The victim told police that her boyfriend Jose Martinez, a 47-year-old resident of Rialto, slammed her head against a pole and shoved her into the car.

She escaped from the vehicle and was able to tell her to police before being taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, officials said.

The Martinez vehicle was eventually pursued in Fontana around 11:30am, police said. At that point, Martinez used it to plow two police cruisers, then led the police in a short pursuit.

By noon, the suspect, identified as Martinez, had refused to surrender, and the suspect, who remained in a white Jeep SUV, was finished in the 10,800 block of Cadota Street, Montclair.

The standoff lasted more than an hour, and crisis negotiators urged Martinez to surrender peacefully, police said.

For reasons under investigation, Martinez got out of the car, took a “two-handed shooting stance” and pointed a black object at the officers. Police then fired and attacked private time.

He was then taken to a local hospital, where he was recently listed as in danger.

Later, the object he had was determined to be a portable battery pack. This appeared to show the photos shared by the police station holding him in his hand as if he were a gun.

Chino Police have released aerial drone images of the moment before the police shooting shots were shot on March 10, 2025 in Montclair. “To provide transparency to the community, we are releasing two photos showing Martinez pointing at an object in a shooting position just before an officer fires,” the police department wrote in an evening news release.

One photo from the Aviation Police drone and two photos from a future body camera showed the moment leading up to the shooting.

As blood was seen from the scene and investigation continued, a large police presence surrounded the vehicle and opened to the public from hours.

The incident has been subject to several different types of investigations, police said.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office and the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the police shooting. The Fontana Police Station is investigating a deadly weapon attack for Martinez, who allegedly plunged police in his car. Chino Police Station will also investigate the initial domestic violence and attempted inducements and whether police were shot dead in line with departmental policies.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Chino Police Detective Gregory at 909-334-3136.
