The Environmental Protection Agency has concluded a $20 billion grant awarded by the Biden administration for climate and clean energy projects, administrator Lee Zeldin announced Tuesday.
In a video posted to X, Zeldin said that the $20 billion US tax “in a deliberate effort to limit government surveillance, it was parked in external financial institutions, expelled money through just eight pass-throughs, politically connected, ineligible, and sometimes brand new NGOs.”
The money has since been frozen and said the Justice Department and the FBI are investigating it.

The program, approved by Congress under the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, was previously known as the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, but more commonly referred to as the Green Bank. The two initiatives worth $14 billion and $6 billion respectively aim to provide grants to nonprofit organizations, community development banks and other groups for projects focused on underprivileged communities.
The eight nonprofits awarded with money include Green Capital Coalition, Climate United Fund, Power Forward Communities, Opportunity Finance Network, Inconusiv, and Justice Climate Fund. These organizations partner with a variety of groups, including the United States, Habitat for Humanity, and Community Conservation Corporation.

In his video, Zeldin reported that the Power Forward Community, a group associated with Democrat Stacey Abrams, received $2 billion after reporting just $100 in total revenue the previous year.
He also said the EPA’s founding director of the program allocated $5 billion to his former employer after working on the law that created the program from his role in the White House.
“These two examples are just the tip of the iceberg,” Zeldin said. “I’m here to report to the American people. As of today, I have completely ended these grant agreements. Not only does the EPA have the full authority to take this action, but frankly, we didn’t leave any other options.”

“This termination is based on substantial concerns regarding program integrity, objections to the award process, program fraud, waste and abuse, and inconsistency with agency priorities.
Zeldin said the “only way” to reduce waste, increase surveillance and meet the intent of the law is to terminate the grant. He said it was his “unwavering commitment” to President Donald Trump, Congress and the American people.
“The EPA will once again become an exceptional steward for your taxes. I don’t do that otherwise,” Zeldin said.
