Formula One Driver lives in a luxurious way.
With the popularity of the racing series booming in recent years, each of the 20 drivers on the grid has seen extra cash in their pockets. The appeal of Formula One in the US has skyrocketed for the popular Netflix docusaries “drive to survive,” especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
As a result, 18 of the 20 drivers in 2025 will reportedly earn salaries of more than $1 million. But which drivers make the most money? And how do young and low drivers stack up with perennial race winners and world champions?
Here’s a breakdown of F1 driver salaries for the 2025 season (all figures do not consider bonuses, sponsorships, or approvals courtesy of RacingNews365):
Who is the best paid F1 driver in 2025?
The two most decorated active drivers will make the most money in 2025.
Max Verstappen leads the path of Red Bull Racing reported in 2025 annual salary. That number is well earned by 27-year-old Verstappen, who won four straight world driver championships. Dutch Starwon has won 53 of the 90 races in the past four years, but his nine victories in 2024 were his fewest victories since 2020.
Lewis Hamilton is coming right behind Verstappen for $60 million in 2025, along with his new team Ferrari. The seven-time world champion won his 12th Silver Arrow last season and two races at Mercedes in the final season. Hamilton, now 40, has earned a career victory in the F1-Record 105 and a career podium in 202.
Behind Verstappen and Hamilton, Ferrari’s Charles Leclair ($34 million), Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso ($20 million) and McLaren’s Rand Norris ($20 million) are the only drivers to make more than $20 million in 2025.
The 27-year-old Monaco native, Leclerc enters the 2025 season with eight career wins, 43 podiums and 26 poles. Alonso, 43, is the oldest driver on the grid with 32 career victories and two world driver championships. Norris, 25, did not win in his first five F1 seasons, but received the breakout 2024 campaign with four wins and the World Constructors Championship.
Who is the lowest paid F1 driver in 2025?
The four drivers will win under $1 million in 2025. And they’re all making their debuts full time this season.
Jack Doohan from Alpine and Isack Hadjar from Racing Bulls are tied to their 2025 minimum salary, with an estimated $500,000-$1 million.
Doohan first started at Alpine in the 2024 season finale, finishing in 15th place. The 22-year-old Australian will enter 2025 as a reserve driver for the Alpines two seasons later as a full-time driver.
Hajar, 20, joined the newly renamed Racing Bulls team after winning four races in Formula 2 last season. The French driver was a test driver for the Racing Bulls and Red Bull in 2023 and a spare driver for those teams in 2024.
Oliver Bareman of Haas and Liam Lawson of Red Bull each report $1 million.
Bearman started three times last season, two with Haas and another with Ferrari due to injury and ban. The best finish at the 19-year-old came with the debut of Ferrari, where he was seventh in Saudi Arabia.
Lawson, 23, has been involved in Red Bull planning for many years. And now he’s finally got a chance with a big team. He has started 11 careers with six career points (all Racing Bulls) over the past two seasons.
