Authorities were rushing to evacuate Loma Linda University Medical Center in San Bernardino County on Wednesday evening after reports of possible armed shooters.
“We know a man who may have a gun at Loma Linda Hospital,” a spokesman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the Times around 7:30pm.
The Sheriff’s Office issued a statement about an hour ago saying that lawmakers were on the scene and were actively liquidating the facility.
People were advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes around the hospital. The hospital is located at 11234 Anderson St., Loma Linda.
Text message alerts will be sent to students on nearby campuses or medical buildings, saying, “This is not a drill. We will launch immediate safeguards. According to reports from ABC7, if we face a threat, we will run, hide and fight.”
The news channel reported that Active Scene was in a university children’s hospital, housed within the medical center. According to its website, the 364-bed children’s hospital serves approximately 90,000 patients a year.
Photos and videos shared on social media showed a massive response between law enforcement and helicopters, connecting traffic to the surrounding streets. Authorities have not yet revealed what the investigation finds.
Helicopter footage shot by KCAL9 showed people being escorted from the hospital, which appeared calm and orderly around 7:30pm. The news channel reported that the suspect was seen in the pediatric unit wearing a black shirt and black pants.
This is a developing story.
