Defense Secretary Pete Hegses has ordered a review of military fitness and grooming standards as the Trump administration continues to reverse its policies.
In a note to senior Pentagon leaders on Wednesday, Hegses ordered Secretary of Defense for Staff and Preparation, Darrin Selnick, to collect existing standards for all US military branches related to physical fitness, body composition and grooming, including whisker regulations.
“We must remain vigilant about maintaining the standards that allow men and women in our military to protect American people and their homelands as the deadliest and effective combat forces in the world,” Hegses said in a statement. “Our work is not challenging because our enemies are not weak.”

Leaders will look at how these standards have changed since January 1, 2015, and provide insight into how they have evolved and the impact of those changes.
Hegseth vowed to regain stricter standards while reversing “awakening” policies that do not coincide with restoring warrior spirits, rebuilding the army, and rebuilding deterrence.
