Hundreds of goats will be tasked with preventing brush fires on the Paros Vedes site.
Around 900 goats will begin cleaning brushes in the Palos Verdes Estate area, Los Angeles County officials announced Thursday, as part of efforts to reduce vegetation and reduce the risk of fires.
Goats eat weeds and other vegetation in the 37-acre park in the Canyon and in the hillside areas that are difficult to reach in four zones. It is located in the stables of Balmonte Canyon and Palos Verdes, the hillside between Boronado and Espinosa Circle, and in the hills below Pinzon and Mrugate House.
Of the 900 goats, 400 began clearing their brushes at the Bal Monte Canyon on Thursday. County officials estimate it will take up to a week and a half. Additional goats will be placed elsewhere next week.
Brush clearance is expected to be completed by the end of March.
