His staff and family, Sen. Tom Tillis, was the target of harassment and death threats, according to a memo released by his office on Thursday afternoon.
The voicemail shared by Tillis’s team reveals a frightening new reality as it is filled with blasphemy and fueled his grievances with President Donald Trump. “The amount of threats and harassment directed at Congressional members and their staff is new normal,” said Daniel Keelin, a senior adviser to the Senate.
“Yeah, Tom Tillis, are you afraid of death threats? Then remove f — from the office,” one caller said in voicemail.
Kielin said Tillis’s office in Greenville, North Carolina had received a handwritten, unsigned letter in Greensboro last month calling his staff a “sacrifice lamb” and claiming he “signed his shield.” The anonymous writer reiterated, “This is by no means a threat,” saying people were about to start “filled with anger.”

The voicemail, released by Tillis’s office, has expressed anger over Trump’s policies and includes violent threats to Tillis and his staff.
“You’re not going to destroy my country,” said one woman. Another caller told Tillis that he “is not one of the good guys anymore,” and that he “gets the f— from the government.”

The anonymous author refers to “The transition to the American oligarchy.” This is a term used by the left to explain the rising power of the billionaire class.
I-Vt. Senator Bernie Sanders attracted thousands of supporters to his “Oligarchy of the Battle” rally. The event will be billed as an opportunity to discuss how we will take on the greed of the billionaire class and create a government that will work for everyone, not just for the minority.
Democrats were furious at Trump inviting billionaires like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg to sit behind him when he took office inside the Capitol. Former President Joe Biden also used the term “oligarchy” in his farewell speech to the people.
“Today, in America, the Olivia of extreme wealth, power and influence is taking shape, which literally threatens our entire democracy, fundamental rights and freedom, and the fair shot for everyone to move forward,” Biden told Americans on Jan. 13.
Two weeks after Tillis’s office received the letter, Indivisible Guilford County, the local division of the Progressive Political Action Group, organized a protest at Tillis’ Greensboro office. The protest press release encouraged peaceful signs and “solidarity,” but Keelin said the protesters tried to break into Tillis’s office.
“They pull angrily, trying to open the locked door to their office, and screaming at Tillis staff to open it: “Come back, we’ll see you! Open the door!” Keelin said in a note.

Keelin said Tillis’s office has received several media enquiries wondering whether Tillis will attend a planned protest or town hall in a Republican-owned district. Outlining the long-standing target threats that have escalated since Trump took office, Keelin said, “Any little person in his sane will understand that it is a stupid question.”
The memo says that “in a wealth of caution” law enforcement has directed the Senator’s office to work from home on the day the protests are planned.
“We don’t apologise for prioritizing staff safety and security,” Keelin said.
The memo outlines two more cases in which North Carolina Senators have been targeted for death threats.
“Senator Tillis, his staff, and even his family are the subject of threats, harassment, attempted threats and verbal abuse from unstable individuals who disagree with his political views,” Keelin said.
A US citizen living abroad was arrested for threatening to kill Tillis and blocking staff hands in 2023, while a Minnesota man was charged with threatening to kill Tillis in 2022, the memo confirmed.

The protests have shut down City Hall in the past two months, disrupting the local Legislative Bureau, and Republicans have resulted in choosing a Teletown hall instead of the in-person town hall. Democrats accused Republicans of ignoring concerns from their constituents by avoiding in-person city halls.
D-Minn. Gov. Tim Waltz will hold city halls in Republican-owned council districts in Iowa and Nebraska on Friday, “I will lend people megaphones.” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., reportedly began planning her own rally in the Republican-owned Congressional district.

Millionaire George Soros and his Open Society Policy Center, MoveOn.org, which has accepted millions of dollars from billionaires, announced in a press release last month that they can work for us rather than for us, “not for Congress, but for pressure lawmakers to fight back against Trump Musk Ascenda.” The group planned protests at council-led city hall and council office.
