A civil rights lawsuit was filed last month against the Los Angeles Police Department after police officers fatally shot and killed a transgender woman.
Linda Betera Moran’s family says she was struggling with a mental health crisis when she called 911 on February 7th. Bodycam footage released by LAPD shows Moran first had a knife around his neck and was approaching the officer who finally fired. She succumbed to her wounds a few weeks later.
The incident occurred in a motel room in Pacoima, where Moran reported being held against her will. Family lawyers argue that Moran is in crisis and is likely a victim of human trafficking.

Community activists and families gathered outside the LAPD headquarters on Friday to demand justice and change in the way police respond to the mental health crisis.
The attorneys representing the family allegedly Moran did not threaten the officers.
